HDD Duplicator Deluxe (HDUS325DX)

About the 1:1 HDD Duplicator Series

This family of Addonics 1:1 HDD duplicator is an economical and simple to use one to one hard drive duplicator solutions. The basic model copies from any 3.5" SATA hard drive to another 3.5" SATA hard drive and the Deluxe model can copy from a 3.5" or 2.5" SATA hard drive to another 3.5" or 2.5" SATA hard drive. There is no computer needed or complex software to operate. Just open the doors on the two drive bays, load your master hard drive to the drive bay on top and another hard drive of capacity equal or larger than the master drive to the bottom drive bay, lock the drive door and push the start button to start the copying process.

Besides the duplicating function, this Addonics duplicator is also a convenient drive sanitization tool to wipe clean any sensitive data stored on any hard drive. You can sanitize both source and target drives all at one time using the SECURE ERASE or the OVERWRITE function up to 7 passes to meet the DoD standard.

  • Copy any 3.5" or 2.5" SATA hard drive to any 3.5" or 2.5" SATA hard drive
  • Great for cloning another hard drive or for making a back up hard drive.
  • Drives are added or removed from the duplicator just like VHS cassette without any special tool
  • Support any type of file format
  • Typical transfer rate* ~ 85 MB/sec
  • Maximum drive size > 4TB

  • Completely standalone One to One hard drive duplicator with no additional hardware or software required
  • Drive sanitization:
    • SECURE ERASE - HDD duplicator sends a WIPE command to the hard drive. This command fills 00 string to entire HDD
    • OVERWRITE - One pass, 3 passes and 7 passes 5220.22-M.  The duplicator writes a string of pattern over the entire disk one time, three times or seven times.5220.22-M is the DoD standard for drive sanitization
  • LCM control module provides a rich set of robust advanced configuration options. Click to see full LCD console feature list

The speed here is for reference only. The speed were measured basing on using 3.5" SATA III 250 GB hard drive for both source and target. The transfer rate varies depending on the speed of the source and destination drive

All 1:1 HDD Duplicators Firmware 1.35H
Applies to: HDUS325DX, HDUSI325, HDUSI325AES, ZHDUESA, HDUSAS

Current firmware version number: 1.35H

This firmware update fixes the following issues:

  1. Version:1.23H
    - Support Fast copy function.(FAT/FAT32/NTFS/EXT2/EXT3/Swap)
    - Modified: Change the Fast Copy switch name form Yes/No change to On/Off.
    - Modified: Change the target drive not enough space string.
    - Modified: Change the LCD display of Copy HDD / Compare HDD/Prescsn Source progress time by increasing numbers.
  2. Version:1.35H
    - Add support for drive size 2TB and larger
    - Fixed Bug that COMPARE HDD is different when 28bit and 48bit HDD finished copy action.
    - Improved 28bit HDD overwrite speed.
    - Added Overwrite function(One pass/Three pass/Seven pass) using DoD standard 5220.22-M
    - Added Secure erase function.

Firmware update procedure (Requires one hard drive containing the firmware file):

  1. Create a 50MB HDD partition with FAT/FAT32 or NTFS files system on any SATA hard drive
  2. Download the firmware and unzip the file to .BIN file format
  3. Copy the .BIN file onto the 50 MB partition of the HDD
  4. Insert this drive to the Source slot of the duplicator. For subsystem, connect the drive to the Source SATA port
  5. Select "Firmware Update" function under the "Setup" or "Advanced Setup" menu and press ENT to do the update. To access the "Advanced Setup", hold onto the ESC button for 5 seconds. The new option will appear
  6. Once completed, it will reboot and show you the new firmware version

Notes for the new firmware:

  • Added drive sanitization feature using the SECURE ERASE and OVERWRITE functions. The new functions are found under the Advance set up menu. These two functions apply to both source and target drive when the drives are present.
  • SECURE ERASE - HDD duplicator sends a WIPE command to the hard drive. This command fills 00 string to entire HDD
  • OVERWRITE - There are three options: One pass, 3 passes and 7 passes 5220.22-M.  The duplicator writes a string of pattern over the entire disk one time, three times or seven times. (5220.22-M is the DoD standard for drive sanitization)

Please note that some drives may become locked and cannot be initialized after the SECURE ERASE or OVERWRITE. Should this happen, use the following procedures to unlock the drive:

  1. Place drive in the source slot
  2. Execute "PreScan" function for 1 minute
  3. Press "ESC" key until you see "User Abort" on the LCD screen
  4. Now remove the drive from the duplicator and connect it to your system, the HDD should be recognized and be able to initialize again
