The Saturn Combo Hard Drive (SCHD) is one of the most flexible hard drive storage solutions you can build using the components from the Saturn kit. You can use SATA or IDE hard drive as a removable hard drive via the same drive bay. The drive enclosure, comes in a compact foot print slightly larger than a VCR cassette, can be used as an external drive. External connection can be either USB, Firewire, CardBus or SATA, all by simply attaching the appropriate Addonics USIB interface cable. There is no switches or jumpers to set between internal and external hard drive applications. Constructed with strong aluminum, the SCHD kit is built for long durability and efficient heat dissipation.
With the choice of Saturn Cipher drive enclosure that comes with built-in bullet proof hardware encryption technology, sensitive data stored in the hard drive can be kept secure even if the hard drive is lost or stolen, Unlike software encryption, the Addonics hardware solution encrypts and decrypts data with no measurable performance degradation and yet simple to use as there is no software to install or password to remember.
You can also install any 2.5" SATA hard drive into into the Saturn SATA drive enclosure using the optional 2.5" hard drive mounting bracket. Or use optional 2.5" -3.5" IDE converter kit to install 2.5" or 1.8" IDE hard drive into the Saturn IDE drive enclosure. SATA - USIB drive enclosure - for installing 3.5" SATA or SATA II or SATA III hard drive, optional mounting bracket for 2.5" SATA hard drive
IDE - USIB drive enclosure - for installing 3.5" IDE hard drive, optional adapter for 2.5" or 1.8" IDE hard drive
|Supported interface for Drive Enclosure||USB 2.0/1.1, Firewire/iLink, SATA or CardBus/PCMCIA using different optional Addonics USIB interface cable|
| encryption security levels
||64-bit DES, 128-bit TDES and 192-bit TDES|
Drive enclosure: 8.19 x 4.57 x 1.46 in. (208 x 116 x 37 mm.)
| Drive Cradles
(Mount inside any standard 5 1/4" drive bay)
IDE drive cradle - connects to IDE directly. With optional IO converter kits, the drive cradle can connect to USB 2.0 or SATA
|USIB drive cradle - connects to USB 2.0, Firewire or SATA using different Addonics USIB interface cable|
|Large hard drive support||YES, support drive capacity of 137 GB or larger in one partition|
|Power source:||from PC power supply or 110/220 power adapter|
|Enclosure cooling||optional cooling fan
Our testing showed cooling fan is not necessary as there is no difference in operating temperature with or without the cooling fan. The aluminum enclosure acts as an efficient heat sink and dissipates heat effectively under normal room temperature of 74 °F to maintain the safe operating temperature range as specified by the drive manufacturer
|Drive cradle cooling fan||YES|
|Weight||15.2 oz ( drive enclosure)
16 oz (drive cradle)
|File Systems||FAT, FAT32, NTFS and HPFS|
*Windows and Mac OS have been tested to hot swap drives using our SATA Host Controllers. Linux may not be able to hot swap without loading an additional module.
|RoHS Compliant (except SATA and CardBus model)|
