This Dual Hyper HDD - M2 SSD Hybrid controller is a 2-port SATA III PCI-e host controller combined with two M2 (NGFF) SATA SSD slots. It offers the benefits of high performance of a small capacity M2 SSD and the low cost, high-capacity of a standard hard drive. The controller can be configured to operate in either hybrid mode or standard mode. In Hybrid mode, the controller enhances the performance of any ordinary SATA hard drive by the faster speed of a M2 SSD (Solid State Drive). This significantly improves the boot up time of your system as well as the overall read/write performance of the hard drive, great for storage IO intensive applications such as gaming, video editing, CAD/CAM or high performance workstations. In standard mode, the connected two M2 SSDs and the two SATA hard drives can be set up to operate as four individual drives or combined to form a RAID 0, RAID 1 or combined into a RAID 10 group . The two SATA ports are Port Multiplier compatible and is SATA III compliant with maximum throughput up to 6Gbps. When installed into a 2-Lane PCI-e (version 2.0 or higher) slot, this adapter offers a maximum band width of 1000 MB/sec. It is a simple economical solution to create a high performance bootable SSD using low cost M2 SSD for any Desktop, server or computing equipment.

 Two modes of operation


Hybrid mode


Standard mode

When operate in the standard mode, the controller can be used for the following applications:

  1. To connect two M2 SSDs and two SATA hard drives as four separate storage devices to any system via a PCIe slot
  2. The two M2 SSDs and the two SATA hard drives connected to the controller can be combined into two separate RAID 1 or RAID 0 drive volume or as a single RAID10 volume
  3. Instead of hard drive, connect two M2 SSD, using Addonics 2.5" M2 flash drive kit, to the SATA ports on the adapter. Together with the two M2 SSD mounted on this PCIe car, a 4 drive RAID 0 can be created to form a hig performance SSD (see below a sample of the CrystalDiskMark result on such set up)

Note: There are three different type of M2 SSDs - M2 SATA SSD, M2 PCIe SSD and M2 NVMe SSD. This adapter is designed to work with only M2 SATA SSD only. For M2 PCIe SSD or NVMe SSD, you may consider one of the following M2 PCIe adapters - ADM2PX4, AD2M2S-PX4 or AD3M2SPX4.

*To achieve the maximum throughput, the PCI-Express slot must be version 2.0 or higher. Older system with PCI-Express 1.0 slot will limit the speed to 2.5 Gbps. In standard mode, performance per port may decrease under individual drive configuration if both ports are transferring data simultaneously due to the limited throughput of the PCI-Express slot.
