Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In

The Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In is a high performance secured storage solution that combines the convenience of a removable drive system and the Addonics field proven CipherChain II into a 5 1/4" drive rack. Once installed, any 2.5" SATA HDD/SSD can be installed and removed from the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In like a VCR cassette. The two 2.5" HDD/SSD are fully encrypted on the fly with bulletproof AES 256-bit encryption.

There is no special software to install or training required to use the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In. Simply insert the Cipher key, load the drive into the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In and lock the drive door to turn on the power. The hard drive operates just as if it is an ordinary drive with minimal performance degradation, far outperforms the software encryption solution. The hard drive inside the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In can be used as a boot drive or as a secondary data drive. When used as a boot drive, the system becomes unbootable without the Cipher key, thus making this a great solution for preventing any unauthorized system access.

The Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In comes in a choice of models with standard AES 256-bit cipher key or HMAC cipher key. The two 2.5" Snap-In bays are attached to the mounting frame via shock isolation cushions, making it a perfect removable drive system to deploy in transportation, factory floor or application environments with frequent shock and vibration.

Performance
The Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In encrypts and decrypts data on the fly at speed up to 6Gbps using an onboard FIPS 140-2 certified AES crypto engine from Enova Technology. Unlike software encryption products that depend on the system CPU to encrypt and decrypt the data, the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In has no impact on CPU utilization. This allows the system CPU to perform its computing tasks at normal speed. The Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In has minimal impact on the performance of the hard drive or SSD.

Simple to use
Similar to all other Addonics encryption products, the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In is a pure hardware solution. This means that there is no software to run, no driver to install and no password to remember. There is very little user training required to use the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In. All the user needs to the correct Cipher key to the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In to gain access to the encrypted SATA hard drive. The same hard drive can also be accessed by another system that is equipped with Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In, CipherChain, Diamond Cipher or Ruby Cipher using the same Cipher key.

Security
Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In is a full disk encryption solution, meaning that the boot sector, partition table, and all the information in the drive are encrypted. Storage devices protected by the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In are inaccessible without the Cipher key. If the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In encrypted drive is stolen and then is connected to another system, the drive will appear as a brand new drive with no trace of any data. For further security enhancement, Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In also supports HMAC key (Key-Hash Message Authentication Code), which cannot be duplicated in case the key is lost or stolen.

Use as a Cipher key programmer
The Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In can be used for programming or duplicating the Cipher key code using the Addonics RNG software utility (a software sold separately). This allows users to manage their own key code and is highly recommended for multiple units deployment.

Choice of standard Cipher (SC) key or HMAC Key (Key-Hash Message Authentication Code)
The standard Cipher key stores the cipher code in plain text. Addonics first generation of CipherChain, Cipher SNap-In, Diamond Cipher, and Ruby Cipher can only be authenticated with this SC key. This type of key is also compatible with this Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In product. Although you can use the same key code for both the Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In and the Addonics first generation Cipher products, the encrypted hard drives are not compatible. In other words, drives encrypted in Dual Cipher II 2.5" Snap-In cannot be attached to the first generation of Cipher product and vice versa.

The cipher code in the HMAC key is encrypted. Its authentication requires two ways of communication with the encryption module and the original encrypted hard drive. The cipher code in the HMAC key is not accessible by any method and cannot be duplicated. The original key file, generated by the Addonics RNG software suite, is required to program additional HMAC key. So when an HMAC key is lost or stolen, the key code cannot be copied or hacked.

* Serial ATA hot swap feature works only with controllers that support this feature. HMAC key: The cipher code in the HMAC key is encrypted and stored in a protected secret area. The code cannot be copied or READ by any mean should the key is lost or stolen.  To program another HMAC key with the same cipher code, the original key file used in creating the cipher code is required.
